The converter is USB to TTL serial UART converter PCB, integrating FTDI FT232RL USB to serial UART interface IC which handles all the USB signals and protocols. The converter offers a small, fast way to connect device with a TTL(5v or 3.3v) level serial interface to USB. It has two version for both signal levels: +5v level and +3.3v level.
The converter is USB powered and USB2.0 full speed compatible. It supports a data transfer rate up to 3Mbaud and support the FTDICHIP-ID, with a unique USB serial number programmed into the PCB.
The converter required USB drivers, available from http://www.ftdichip.com, which are used to make the FT232R on the PCB appear as virtual COM port(VCP). This then allows users to communicate with the USB interface via a standard PC serial emulation port. Another FTDI USB driver is D2XX driver, can also be used with application software to directly access the FT232R on the PCB though a DLL
